I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A17 FA707XU_FA707_XU. Here are the specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/Radeon 780M Graphics (4.00 GHz) chipset drivers 8.02.18.557
32.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6 GB) driver version 596.36
AMD Radeon 780M Graphics (409 MB) Adrenalin 26.5.1
It is a dual-booting system with Windows 11 on one disk and Ubuntu on another. The problem that I am having is only with the Windows system. Here are the Windows specs:
Windows 11 home 25H2 262007623
installed on 4/6/2025
OS build 26200.8457
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.304.0
I used to be able to duplicate the laptop's display on an external Dell monitor when running Windows 11. I can still do that when running Ubuntu, but I can no longer do that when running Windows 11. If I type Windows-P and choose "Duplicate", the built-in monitor on the laptop and the external monitor flash in alternation as if they are testing different resolutions. However, they continue to do this indefinitely. The only way to get this behavior to stop is to log out. Sometimes the behavior continues even after I log in again and I have to log out a second time.
As far as I know, the graphics drivers are up to date.
I did not use the laptop for a few months. When I started using it again, Windows installed several updates:
2026-05 Security Update (KB5089549) (26200.8457)
2026-05 .NET Framework Security Update (KB5087051)
2026-04 Security Update (KB5083769) (26200.8246)
2026-04 .NET Framework Security Update (KB5082417)
2026-01 Security Update (KB5074109) (26200.7623)
I suspect that one of these updates broke the ability to duplicate the display on an external monitor.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thank you in advance.
