How good is Vista on the AAO?

I have the 8GB SSD and 1.5GB RAM in mine and I am currently running XP. I am pretty happy with XP (apart from the relatively slow startup process) but I am so tempted to switch to Vista - simply because I prefer it's front end now having got used to it.

I don't mind running a Vlite install but I would like to find out what people's experiences in running Vista instead of XP have been so far.

Is Vista noticably slower than XP on the AAO? Would I gain\lose anything in switching? What optimisation is required on Vista to make it run well on the One?

    Any help would be great.

I thought Vista was faster, try it and see, if you've got no need for your One right now, and can just leave it installing somewhere, what have you got to lose?

Why do you need a cable?
Do we need a flip cable for the Toshiba drive?
Im trying all I can to get mine to boot, but it might be all a waste of time if all I need is a flip cble..

Sounds like good advice Rory. I think I will give it a try and see how I get on. Do you reccommend I Vlite or should I go with the standard build? I have Vista Home Premium by the way.

    definitely vlite
but dont remove UAC. It says you can but make sure you never turn it on. But one of the vista drivers I needed had to have UAC on or somethinglike that, and it took loads of effore to make it work.
Things to take out in my opinion
Languages (takes off about a GB)
Printer drivers, all the generic printer drivers adds up to some massive amount like 500MB or more I think.
    Anything else you don't want.
My "all programs" part of the start menu had about 6 things in it.... shows how much I took out...

Just had to reinstall Vista, during the whole adding a drive process, the SSD got screwed up..
Anyway, It installed totally in 1 hour 5 minutes :)
So I'm a happy bunny. Now it's just going through the post-installation crap.

I have started to install Vista this morning. I slimmed the install down a fair bit and I will let you know what my thoughts are once done :geek:

which is faster xp, nlite, vista or vlite????

im a bit confused? i was planning to have xp on my AA1, but if vista is somehow faster and provided the correct drivers for all the hardware are easily available, i may as well go for vista

    Rory,

I have instaled Vista but I having a couple of issues.

The first thing that I have is that my install has only left 1.4GB of disk space left. :( Is this normal, or is there stuff I can do to free up space? Any tips on Vista re optimising for the AAO? I had already slimmed down the install so I am a bit surprised the install took up that much space.

Secondly, I can't get the Card Readers working (either one) on Vista. Is there a seperate driver for it? I have used the XP one and although it looks like it installs OK (the AAO makes a noise which sounds like it's working when I install a SDHC), you can't see the Card in Explorer. Any ideas on this?

    Thanks for any help.
