For those who are looking for a free WINDOWS “xp” alternative you could
no go far wrong in trying out this free linux version.

NETRUNNER “Linux” is the easiest to use and the closest to a windows
    operating system I’ve found .

NETRUNNER will run from a usb stick

A full install will take about 40 minutes on a acer one type netbook.

In order to put it on a usb flash drive you will need to download a small program
called UNETBOOTIN which can be found here.

    http://www.freewarefiles.com/UNetbootin_program_49146.html

Download the NETRUNNER “ISO” then download UNETBOOTIN

Using the UNETBOOTIN program select distribution and choose “kubuntu”
    then 14.O4 live.

Scroll down to the three dots then choose the directory you downloaded the “ISO”
to. then choose the usb drive letter then select go.

You can full install from the usb drive after it's created. Or simply carry on
using it from the usb drive.

Awesome! This sounds way better than having to suffer by having to purchase a copy of Windows 8.1! I feel for those XP users who might not know about this alternative, it might not be quite the same, but at least it's better than having to use Windows 8.1!
