So I can right click the desktop and get an xfce menu, but which packages are needed for a traditional xfce desktop, such as the one featured on xubuntu or goblinX? also, where can I get the xfce session manager plugin, so I can startup in the nice fluxbox window manager I got off the fedora 8 repo?

You may find some clues as to what Xfce components the AAO uses from the root commandline history post. However, for advice on a "traditional" Xfce desktop's requirements, you're probably better posting to the Xfce community directly.
