I currently use Ubuntu on the computer I game on ( I am not sure what version my husband installed it for me). I enjoy how it is set up and my husband who is a computer security guy uses it for his job just fine. We use wine to use windows type programs on the computer as well.

I am not currently using Linux since most of the laptops I access in my area are Windows versions. When I decide to commence on Linux, I would prefer using Ubuntu which a new user who can't initiate a command line would find it easy to use. It releases versions over staggered periods of time (after every 6 months) making it more stable and its apps come pre-installed. In fact, many users of other versions are coming back to Ubuntu despite the fact that its older.

Ubuntu is the better known Linux distros for a good reason. It's always up to date. I think that it's a good choice for any one that is starting up. Mint is a good choice as well and is built on Ubuntu.
