Has anyone come up with a simple way to transfer a DVD to the AAO?

I've got the 120gb Win XP model

Don't transfer it. Look on ebay for external usb powered dvd drives that are NOT specifically for the acer aspire one because sellers are exploiting the one's lack of a dvd drive and saying that this specific dvd drive is compatible when all dvd drives are compatible. You should be able to find oen for around $30

Copy all the files on the DVD to the AAO, using e.g. your home network or an external USB harddrive/stick. Then play with VLC.
    Pro: easy.
    Con: byebye 5 GB.

You could also rip the DVDs, converting the movie to divx, xvid or some other compressed format.
Pro: 700 MB takes less space than 5 GB (duh) and is easier transferred
Con: the ripping and encoding part will take time.

Given the small screen size it should be possible to compress down to around 400Mb and still be watchable. I have some stuff sized for the iPod Touch that looks OK on the AA1 and is around 350Mb.

As already mention VLC is an excellent media player and will handle most formats.
