I installed vista ultimate sp1 from xp sp3.
xp's battery lasted around 2hrs but on vista it only lasts about 50min even on the battery saver mode.
when I move my mouse over to the battery icon it tells me that I have 55min left on the battery.

it's really weird. did I miss any minor setting'?

Is this time confirmed, or are you just going by the battery meter? The battery meter is more so based on what your doing at the present time. Mine will go from 55 mins to 3 hours depending on what I am doing in the background.

should i go back to XP?
I really like the UI of vista, it's nice but if it eats up battery then I have no choice.

and yes the time value changes over time. 50min- 1hr-40min-50min

but i do feel that vista consumes more battery tho

Well of course Vista uses more power, its like adding more weight to a vehicle. The gas consumption will go up.

So it's only natural for the battery to drain faster. I think you should get about 2 hours on battery real life usage.

My Vista laptop ran for about 3 hours on battery, when I loaded XP on it, I got just over 4 hours. So it gives you an idea of the over head that friggin OS takes. A lot of people claim increased battery life, but I haven't gotten that same result. Even after all the configuration I have done.

me2 I heard many stories online about slightly increased battery life on Vista over Xp.
But I guess that test was done through turning off various settings in vista in order to minimize the process running in the background.

Then again WTH is the point of using vista if you are going to turn off all the features to make it look like XP

Off the 3-cell battery that came with mine, I get maybe an hour to an hour and a half max on it. Pretty pathetic actually. Shame systems with the 6-cell weren't available yet back when I got it.
