Okay I have a ripped copy of spiderman 3 on my acer aspire one and every time I try to play it it does weird things, it's pixely and warped and I can't get it to play smoothly. Here are the specs of the video I'm trying to watch -

    664 x 268 size
    bitrate 112 kbps
    frame rate - 23 frames/second
    data rate - 785 kbps

So I've tried windows media player and the windvd that came with it and neither of them can play it smoothly.

I rip videos using cloneDVD mobile on divX normally 480 X 272 using 50% quality. Mamma Mia comes out at 1.26GB to give you an idea (about 1/2 size or less if I remember correctly).
It runs smoothly on media player using about 17% CPU and 269MB page file running tweaked version of ron's tiny XP on 160GB/512 RAM model.
You can use any divX converter as long as media player has the codec (or use another player).
You didn't say what format you ripped it to?
