    Hallo there,

I've just bought an external USB CD drive (Teac CD-224e) to install Vista (vlited, 2 disc version) or at least windows xp from orig cd.
BUT... My acer aspire one 150l doesn't boot from cd... The drive is recognized in linux itself and in bios (-bootoptions), but it's not booting at all...

I got the information that this drive is compatible with the a150l, but it seems... hm... it isn't -.-

Is there any way to boot vista/xp with it or do i have to get my money back because it's crap?

    Regards

    Chris

do you have another system you can try to boot that TEAC drive from?
I just tried with a BenQ DW1655/Vantec Nextstar combo and it worked perfectly fine.
I've also booted from an external Plextor 716UF.

Had exactly the same problem, did a web search on the cd drive name and found an awful lot of people having the same problem. Basically seems to be a CD drive that will not boot without a firmware upgarde - snag is Teac do not offer one. Dell do offer one for their version of the drive (may not be USB) but it did not work on mine when I tried it. Ended up doing a USB install as described in the Windoxs XP installation thread.

    a) First of all, be sure to connect your USB CD/DVD-Drive directly to your AAO (from what I experienced from other netbooks - an USB-Hub can cause such boot trouble).

    b) Double check that the media within the drive is already bootable

    c) I read some postings, that the USB-slots on the left side causes boot problems - so try othe USB-slots on your machine to verify that
