I created the USB installer on my pc, following all the instructions that i saw (formatting..etc..etc..)

I put it in my AAO, and hit f12

    pick the usb flash drive

and i get a screen that says

    SYSLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008-07-15 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2008 h. Peter Anvin
    boot:
(at this point, i've found no instructions in needing to do anything, so i hit enter and it replies)
Could not find kernel image: linux
    boot:

... I ran a file check on the cd to make sure it was intact, I've formatted the usb drive 3 times, and reinstalled to usb

    no luck

maybe i have the wrong version? i followed links from pc magazine

    ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso

    any help would be appreciated

The simplest way is to use unetbootin. It is availble for both Linux & Windows.

    If you are doing this from windows;

    insert thumbdrive
    double click on my computer
sellect and right click on thumbdrive
format using fat32(do not quick format)
    run unetbootin

See the wiki. Scroll down to "Install Wifi."

the problem is, i can;t get the wired connection to work either, so i can't pull anything off the net to fix the wifi

it worked (the wired internet) until after I patched, now it won't connect

In exactly the same situ here - so I wait with baited breath for someone to reply with the solution (that hopefully doesn't involve a complete reinstall!)

Instead of the standard Intrepid 386 ISO, you might want to try The MID USB image.

Below is a mirror picked at random.
    http://mirror.uoregon.edu/ubuntu/releases/intrepid/
The version of Intrepid I am referring to is about half way down the page.
All mirrors should have this img file.

    I currently use Linux4One on my AA1.

i get wired internet under .7 not .11

but um, not convenient, wired connection isn't really in a spot where i can do a lot of work, so this still sucks, i'm at the point where i'm gonna look for a way to uninstall linux and try and another distro, this sucks and no remedy i can find for the problem
