I regularly stream music from my Netbook (AAO HDD, Mint 8) to my desktop via wifi.

Everything works fine, and music streams without incident.

However, if i close the lid on the netbook, i notice that suddenly, network speeds drop severely and the stream is interrupted. It will still stream or copy but at a greatly reduced rate.

Now, as the netbook is on AC power there is no powersaving activated at all in my settings.

Any ideas as why i get massive slowdown when closing the lid?

Can't help much, but I would try and see what processes are running when the lid is closed.
I think there was a bug some time ago that made cpu usage go up like crazy after closing the lid.
    (or try instaling Mint 9)

I doubt that software will solve your problem, might be the direction of the antenna or interference.

you could try the following to determine the problem, leave the lap slightly open, reposition AAO or wifi antenna on router/pc.

Its an AAO problem not the router. The symptoms can be recreated on every network i have tested on.

Copying a large file transfers around 1.5mb/s but if i close the lid that drops to less than half the speed.
