    Just saw this on engadget:

    http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/26/8-9- ... -distaste/

So apparently, playing music too loud can cause the HDD to fail. Can anyone confirm this? Sounds a little absurd to be honest.. doesn't seem like the tiny speaker could put out enough sound to cause hdd damaging vibrations, let alone magnetic interference :( .

Man... Engadget can be really late on the news.
I posted similar post couple month ago in this forum.

Except... it's more likely to be a power problem instead. Cranking up the screen brightness and transferring large files through wifi also cause similar problem.

Plug the computer to AC and most of the problem will be solved.

That sounds more plausible. I am aware of the various power issues (experienced one myself when I first got my aao :S). I guess engadget is just fishing for problems.

is it lacking power or is it magnetic interference?

I tried plugging in and then played U2, same issue.
Most likely the micro vibrations are causing the issue. Magnetic issue might be one, does anyone here know how I could magnetically shield the speaker from hdd?

Well.. plugin in your headphone and full blast it. Sometimes the speaker just uses too much power and even plugging in A/C won't completely solve the problem.

And it's definetly now a magnetic problem. It's almost physicially impossible unless you have a much powerfull speaker. E.g. a 500W subwoofer or something.
Acer Aspire one's speaker is far too weak to cause noticible magnetic interferrence.

Damn those newbie mexicans on HardwareCult forum.

yeah, it might be power issue then, because I made a bass test, turned it to full blast, and a few puffs of smoke came out.
it was at 80hz when it suddenly blue screened, then restarted.

I used A THX BASS test package.

I never got a hang of audacity.
I prefer using adobe audition, similar name, but much better program.
