The BIOS battery on my Acer Aspire 523h never retained enough charge to keep the date and time current. However I want to replace it with a new battery. What make would the battery be, where can I get one, and what were the specs., e.g. voltage, etc., for this. Also would it be easy to replace? I guess its well soldered onto the mother board. Many thanks.

Replacing the cmos battery will require some disassembly, here's a link
to obtain a disassembly manual that you can download.

On page 60 you will see the battery it is soldered but should be quite easy
    to do.

The battery is the blue item on page 60

Batteries are available on ebay very cheaply.

OK - many thanks for this. First I have to get the Acer to boot up - the hard drive is going - bad!!! Then I need to replace the hard-drive with a SSD. Then I'll replace the BIOS battery.
