I installed the recovery CD from an external USB CD drive onto a 16GB SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash card that I plugged into one of the USB ports. The installation went without any errors, but when I reboot the system, it hangs on the light blue Aspire One screen. Note: the AAO is somewhat disassembled ... no SSD, HD, trackpad, audio plugged in.

    Any suggestions?

I just noticed that the CAPS lock led is blinking too. I searched for "caps lock" and read about other people's problems, but it didn't sound like there was a solution anywhere. In some cases people couldn't complete the creation of a recovery disk on USB, but I was doing a straight install, and the process actually finished.

Hmm, maybe I'll try a different distro now.
