I'm looking for something reasonably robust and easy to install on a AAO still running Linpuss. Robust to me means NOT a single self-modifying html file - I want to use this for all my research notes and the wiki is likely to get quite big.

    Suggestions gratefully received!

..So far the best solution I've found is the mighty Org Mode for emacs.

I tried a couple of different wikis and stopped on zim. It is well supported and mature. Other thing I enjoyed is Basket but they have not ported it to kde4 yet. Check out FreeMind also, it is easy to install (java application) and very helpful in organizing thoughts and links to files etc.

That would have been my next choice. I decided to try emacs org first because you can combine the PIM with other plugs ins, like spell checking. But emacs is definitely a minority taste - it's worth the hassle if you need a lot of power, otherwise not.

Thanks! Seems like a good summary.
