Used the ZG5 for 5 minutes yesterday morning, closed er up and came back 10 minutes later and opened it - nothing came on. thought it was the battery, so i plugged in the power adapter - no go - tried a friend's battery and adapter - no go..

I popped er open thinking there was a loose connection somewhere and attempted booting without hard drive, ram, video, ect one at a time and all together to get anythign to light up with no avail.

Unfortunately, I think im gonna be looking for a new motherboard - very frustrating considering the fact that this thing is less than 7 months old. Im kinda pissed, but I hope i missed something in my troubleshooting that you guys can shed some light on..

    thanks for the screen space..

    Hi there,

Have you checked that the power switch is actually switching?
Could be something as simple as that!!

    Hi,

Yeah, you should get the light on with the power plugged in.

Hmm... certainly does sound like something fairly fundamental has gone pop.

Would try tracing the power from the plug through the Mobo as you can to see where it stops. Check everything that you can that should have power and see if it points you towards something which isn't getting power.

But it sounds like you may have to replace the Mobo :(

    Guys,

I have had the same problem - twice - both with different ZG5s, and both only several months old. For no apparent reason I just can't switch them on. I can get the left power light on both battery and mains power but, they will not start/boot.

I am no techy so the first time I took it to a 'back street' shop who claimed that they had sent it to a more specialist analyst. Result - memory ok (intact) but Motherboard was fryed!! I like the model so much, I bought another. Same problem occurred last week but this time - no attempt to diagnose. Beginning to think that this is a common problem with these machines.

I would be interested to know how you get on? Can anyone else offer an explanation or suggest how to help?

Thinking of tackling ACER themselves - Product is clearly not fit for purpose if it crashes after a few months after only very light, normal use!!!! Does anyone know if ACER are already aware of this problem?

Acer support is very difficult to work with, especially if you only speak English. Your probably better off trying to fix it yourself. If you or one of your Friends know electronics, there is a schematic wiring diagram that might help trace the power problem.
