    updated packages, a new config manager similar to gconfig, better system menu layout, new sound mixer etc etc, have a look here at the xfce4.6 site for the release info >> http://www.xfce.org/about/news?id=21&PH ... d519614c07 and also an xfce4.6 tour that shows the new stuff step by step >> http://www.xfce.org/about/tour :)

    i must say that i am really impressed so far, and the only thing i've found that isn't working is the mouse settings for synaptics touchpads, this is because the new xfce input manager isn't fully compatible in F10 (but will be in F11), but this isn't really a problem as you can still use synclient to adjust the toupad settings if you find the need too, but if you have been using F10 & xfce up to now i'm sure you have the touchpad set as you like :D

    if anyone else tries this let me know how you get on :)

    is the prelim repo the only available one? so should i create a /etc/yum.repos.d/xfce46-for-f10-testing-only.repo file and then paste

    Code:
    [46-for-f10]
    name=Xfce 4.6 for Fedora 10
    failovermethod=priority
    baseurl=http://www.scrye.com/~kevin/fedora/46-for-f10/10/$basearch/
    enabled=1
    gpgcheck=0

    ??

    Then what do i need to do next? and oh wait, should I

    Code:
    rpm -e imsettings-xfce
    first?

    thanks a lot. hoping to hear from you soon. Oh, btw, I've just noticed that you're using 150. Would this work with 110, as well?

    yes that's the only repo for F10, though you could download the source and try compiling it yourself, but as that repo was setup by the F10 xfce maintainer i think it will be the better choice :D, also yes that's the first two steps,
    once they are done simply do a yum update and enjoy 4.6 :D

    I have it working now, thanks a lot phil. Just let me know if there are new updates regarding this one.

    Have you tried if the suspend and hibernate works properly?

    jhedrotten - yeah i'll post here if there is any updates, but since you have the xfce4.6 repo enabled packagekit will let you know if there is any updated packages available for download :)

    yeah i have everything working here, suspend, hiberbnate, sound, and even the card readers both hotplug perfectly :cool:

    i can't see why other people are fighting to get other os's to work properly when in F10 with xfce and a few easy mods the one works perfectly :)

    csmo - a good read for installing F10 with xfce on the one is jorge grandon's blog here >> http://jorge.fbarr.net/2008/11/10/fedor ... spire-one/ this is a great starting point. but don't install madwifi as the ath5k driver that's built in the kernel works perfectly with the AR5007 wireless card that's in the one :)

    you both might be interested i a post i made regarding changing some powersettings on the fly when the psu is connected or disconnected here >> viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11944 it's set so when the psu is connected you get max performance and when it's disconnected you get max powersaving, also you can call the script manually to override the settings if you need full performance while on battery for instance. if you want to try it and are having trouble just give me a shout and i'll help if i can :)

    Hi,

    How is 4.6 working if you change resolution?

    I have some problem with the "old" one. When changing to a higher resolution (external monitor) the resolution changes but if I try to use fullscreen there will be a square the size of the old res with "fullscreen". It works if I set the resolution before I start X and XFCE. It only fails when changing resolution on the fly.

    Regards
    Johan

    johan have you created an xorg.conf or are you letting X do it's autodetect thing?

    I used xrandr to change resolution. I've had some problems when using xorg.conf with external monitor specified but not connected. Actually maybe I should give the xorg.conf another go since I havn't tested it that hard.

    a good starting point would be to try my xorg, then add the info for your second screen :)

    Code:
    Section "ServerLayout"
    	Identifier     "X.org Configured"
    	Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
    	InputDevice    "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
    	InputDevice    "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    EndSection

    Section "Files"
    	FontPath     "catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d"
    	FontPath     "built-ins"
    EndSection

    Section "Module"
    	Load  "extmod"
    	Load  "glx"
    	Load  "dri"
    	Load  "dbe"
    EndSection

    Section "InputDevice"
    	Identifier  "Keyboard0"
    	Driver      "kbd"
    	Option	    "XkbLayout" "gb"
    EndSection

    Section "InputDevice"
    	Identifier  "Mouse0"
    	Driver      "mouse"

    	Option	    "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
    EndSection

    Section "Monitor"
    	Identifier   "Monitor0"

    phil, I installed xfce4.6 last night. had to install imsettings-xfce first, but that seemed to do the trick. Looks pretty good.

    I've been doing some tweaking of the fonts, menu bar sizes, and had to add missing icons in the bottom toolbar. Is this normal? Should I consider using your xorg.conf and will this address the need for all these changes?

    I also did the cpuspeed mod to set it to 1.6GHz. I don't know how that is going to affect battery life yet. It would be nice if the cpuspeed service could only be enabled during battery operation. Maybe I should seriously consider your power management mod?

    Does your powermanagement mod adjust fan speed, or should I install something like acerhdf? Right now my fan runs constantly, even during suspend.

    Finally, I thought I should install gnome-power-manager per an earlier exchange with you, but it won't install, giving me an error that the dbus service is not installed/running. Maybe gnome-power-manager isn't even required?

    I'm thinking that fc10 with xfce4.6 is going to be my distro of choice at least until fc11 is released.
    Probably a lot of dumb questions here, but I'm still learning as I go.
    Thanks for any help you can offer. Your advice is always well appreciated.
    Steve
