    Hey guys,

I have an HP laptop 625, The CD Reader was working fine, but those couple days, It open as it was, but after I put the CD in, it starts to make some strange sound, the Reading light is flashing but it doesn't read any thing !

    Is it broken ?
    thank you in advance,

If you are hearing an unusual mechanical sound coming from the CD reader, than there is a good chance that something is physically wrong with it.

Sadly these devices have little motors and driving belts that can seize up and then stop working. You might want to look for a replacement part or test the CD reader in another laptop just to be sure.

Strangely enough the CD Reader on Laptops seems to give very few problems - probablt 'cos we don't use them so much...

A NEW one will not 'break the bank' either... currently DVD reader/Writers (which also read/write to CD's) for Laptops - are available from as little £14.00 in England
(you haven't said where you're from on your profile) - this one...

SAMSUNG 8X 12.7mm SUPER-SLIM SATA INTERNAL DVDRW BARE BLACK

    is available from Aria.co.uk - quickcode: 61216 - @ £13.99

Ususally they are held into the Laptop by ONE screw and 'friction'

    BUT !

    Make sure YOURS is SATA,
not the older version (PATA) which has a totally different connector - THOSE because of being 'so old' are very expensive and you may have to think about an USB External DVD Player

    I hope this was useful

It sounds like your CD drive may be having some problems. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check the CD for damage. Make sure the CD is not scratched or dirty. If it is, try cleaning it with a soft cloth.
    2. Try a different CD. If the first CD doesn't work, try a different one to see if the problem is with the CD or the CD drive.
    3. Restart your computer. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor problems.
    4. Update your drivers. Make sure your CD drive drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
    5. Run a diagnostic tool. HP has a diagnostic tool that can help you troubleshoot problems with your CD drive. You can run the diagnostic tool by following these steps:
      • Go to the HP website and download the diagnostic tool.
      • Run the diagnostic tool and select the CD drive option.
      • The diagnostic tool will run a series of tests on your CD drive.
      • If the diagnostic tool finds any problems, it will provide you with instructions on how to fix them.
If you've tried all of these steps and the CD drive is still not working, it's possible that the CD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.
