I've managed to download and install using instructions on website http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/ and I have managed to find the programme I want (last weeks Holby :)), but I'm stumped at how to download and play it... tried this as suggested in Documentation

    get_iplayer -get 288

288 was index number given in listings and I still just get a listing of the -h help information - where am I going wrong!?

    @holywoodmum

    try this ./get_iplayer --get 288

there needs to be two dashes in front of get (minus signs if you like) only one show up in documentation page leading to error also I found the need to do the ./ bit before get_iplayer not sure how I figured that out but also necessary

    hope this holby helps

    brilliant thanks!!

yep, that's downloading now... do I need special software to view it or will it work with Media Master? Also do I view from terminal or just double click when browsing?

The instructions (copied & pasted direct from the site linked) are:

    Code:
    Linux RPM Package (Fedora/Redhat)
Install/update using rpm (as root user):

        rpm -Uvh [url]http://linuxcentre.net/get_iplayer/packages/get_iplayer-current.noarch.rpm[/url]
What is it that you don't understand about that? You need to be using a terminal, and you can become root user by typing "su" in the terminal and entering your password.

Ok. Sorry to be so obtuse its just I'm new to linux. I didn't even know about the su thing to get to root, even though I've installed a few things already I've mainly gone off guides to help me. I appreciated your time to reply to my post. I will give this a go tomorrow.

    Cheers.

I'm going to post this in stages as it's objecting to something I typed, bear with me,..

OK I'm no expert but if you got to the website listed
    http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/
then go to "installation" on the right hand side
the instructions there are fairly straight forward!

open a terminal (Alt+F2 and type xterm)
and type in or copy and paste the lines given for linux and the rpm package

OK it doesn't like me typing the three lines of code from theinstallation page - you need the line that starts wget, then chmod, then rpm..

enter them as three separate lines and press enter in between each one.

you also download the tv programmes through terminal(Alt+F2 type xterm)

the page on documentation http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/documentation/ explains it all

for example, to download all episodes of holby city you would type

    get_iplayer --get "holby"

you'll see the download progress in the terminal window.

once downloaded you'll need to use VLC to watch them, as the pre-installed media player can't play these files... search these boards for VLC if you haven't already installed it...
