having unlocked the linpus lite desktop to the fully functioning desktop, I noticed that I can't get screen shots automatically by pressing the print screen key

I know that I can issue gnome-screenshot or gnome-screenshot --interactive from a terminal session to achieve the same effect, but how do I reassociate this functionality with the print screen key ?

Try using XCFE Settings manager. Select Keyboard. select Shortcuts TAB.
    gnome-screenshot PrtScrn should be there.
add gnome-screenshot --interactive with shift Prt Scrn
