microfone: not solved but now obsolete (31-5-11)

Since some time, since several updates, my microfone -either internal either external, produces only big noise and no understandable recording; since today there is no tone at all.
I am using twinkle as my telephone; there the microfone is quite important
I checked alsamixer and found that the ruler for e-mic was not changeable, as if the mic is muted, which I never did.

Any suggestion what I can do. I assume it is a software problem since in several posts I saw similar problems but the solutions did not help in my case.

It seems that amongst teh 146 readers of my post nobody had the time to reply. Now forget it; since I changed in the meantime to fedora 14LXDE and everything works.
However, I wonder that even the moderators did nottake the time for a short reply.
