Messenger on Aspire 1

My messenger seems to be very picky when it works and when not to. It seems to depend on the wireless network I'm in, sometimes the messenger works fine (though occasionally signing out then i again), but in other networks it just refuses to sign in, even though the connection is good, and browsing the web works fine! Anyone else have this problem, or suggest things I can do to fix it? Thanks, M
