Linux 2 linux networking

Hi

Little question, since this (the ONE) is my 3e linux pc at home I was wondering what would be the best way to interconnect them (and best I mean simplest)

All I want is some file sharing between them (maybe fixed mounted or otherwise) and one pc has got a cups (turboprint) printer.
I know about samba, it just seems such an overkill or am I wrong in that?

For NFS client side you have to install

nfs-utils

It is in the standard package manager.
