Laptop Touchpad - Make dead zones?

Hi, I have a Old HP Probook 4320s and the mouse buttons are built into the touch pad which is where the problem lies. You can move your pointer to where you want it, go to click it and the pad recognises this as a move and you end up clicking on the wrong thing or nothing. So what I wanted to do was make it so the bottom part of the pad does not actual sense touching, only the clicking. Can this be done at all?
