Just installed ubuntu :)

    i just dual booted my AAO with ubuntu YAY. This is the first time the i have ever used ubuntu so i dont know anything :S i have a few Q's to ask so please bare with me.

    1 what drivers do i need for all of the things in the aao (LAN,WLAN, chipset, sound, webcam and so on)

    2. is there another topic or thred that has most of the new ubuntu users needs

    1. Wired LAN should just work, just plug in an ethernet cable. For wireless, you'll need linux-modules-backports for your kernel and will need to blacklist the ath_pci driver. Webcam should just work. Sound should just work, although you may need to adjust the volume.

    Installing the backport modules and enabling the "support for 5xxx series...." in the restricted drivers screen (system menu) should be enough. Also disable other wireless options.

    If you have problems with wifi (losing connection with large file transfers...) you might try the madwifi driver, but ath5k is a lot easier to install. I use the madwifi driver as I regularly watch streaming video or transfer large files.

    Ignore darkteckno's comment. Everyone has to learn Linux/Ubuntu for the first time, including darkteckno. There is a learning curve but I think it is well worth it. Start with the community page that you were given the link to earlier in this thread and just follow it through. If you get stuck start asking.

    ok thanks. after having ubuntu for a week i know a little bit more so i wont need to ask to many more Q's :)
