Is upgrading the LCD panel even remotely possible?

    I'd like to have a higher resolution than 1024x600, even at 8.9". Even better, I'd like to use some of that extra space around the sides to install a bigger LCD. For that, I'd GLADLY sacrifice the webcam.

    Are either of these possible?

    You could probably make a 10.1" LCD from another Acer work (Plugs are wired the same, at least those I've seen), making it fit and trimming the bezel is another thing all together, especially if you want it to look good. Going to a higher resolution would mean you'd have to make up your own connector and you'd probably need to have more memory since higher resolution = more memory and the system memory is shared for video. It could be done but it's probably not worth the cost and hassle.
