I tried to install Skype but I'm not too sure which one to install. Should I install the one for Fedora 7 or Fedora 6 Core? Again, I came across an error message "Malicious software can damage computer or cause other harm. Are you sure you wish to install this package? Details: Public key for skype-2.0.0.72-fc5.i586.rpm is not installed". I canceled the installation 'cause I'm afraid of it will crash my OS. Anyone has successfully installed Skype?

Yes, that's the right package (same for Fedora Core 5, 6 and 7 - and Linspire by definition),
just accept the license and dependency-packages and Skype will be installed correctly.
No risk to crash the OS - you're in Linux now and not Windows anymore!

    To start Skype :
    - hit 'Alt-F2' and enter the 'skype' command
    or
    - follow the instructions here to enable the advanced mode : viewtopic.php?f=10&t=23&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20#p152
    - then go back to the Desktop (Home key or icon on lower-left corner) and right-click anywhere
    - under Network, click on Skype

    Hope it helps.
(>Settings>Audio parameters also to enable the I(nternal)-Mic or E(xternal)-Mic and Microphone boost - was working fine for me by default when calling the Skype test service "echo123".)

I finally installed Skype but every time I logged in and the Skype just disappeared from the desktop. It seemed like it quit after I logged in. Why's that?

Yes. Ever since I installed the skype, my aspire one acted differently. I can't even reinstalled it from the package manager. Time to do a system recovery or tried out Ubuntu :) Wish me luck.

    Hi there!

I'm linux newbie and I'm having a problem installing skype on my friends aspire one. I've read a lots of information, activate advanced mode, but when I try to install skype it gives me an error - something about missing packet libstdc++.so.6, or Glibcxx_3.4.9 by kdelibs3. I can't find such kind of package. Pls, tell my how can I solve the problem.

P.S.: I'm sorry if my english isn't good enought, I'm not a english native speaker...

I wonder how many guys out there still having trouble running Skype. I have no problem installing it; however, it quits itself everytime I login. So, I tried to run it on the command line and found it 'abort' after I logged in.

However, the problem is solved after finding the missing package and some commands. :)

    Hi there,

I've got Skype working and even got the video up and running.

However, the video screen that comes up is *tiny*, is this how it should be ? or, is there a way to make the
video screen bigger on the Aspire One ?

    Thanks,
    Roy.
