    i've installed window xp on the ssd disk and it works fine.
    I've tried to install linpus on a usb stick(4g) using the recovery dvd and an usb dvd drive, it said it install successfully.
    When i try to boot it up it hangs on a blue screen with aspire one on it and the fourth led keeps blinking, the one with the lock above it.
    Then i've used the same stick and installed pendrivelinux on it, it works fine.
    I've tried again installing linpus using the dvd drive and the recovery dvd on an other stick (8gb).
    Again it installed successfully.
    But i had the same screen and led blinking when i tried to boot it up.
    If i boot up with the pendrive i can see all the installed files on the linpus stick.
    Is it possible to install linpus on a stick using the recovery dvd?
    What can i do to make it work?
    I have almost no expirience with linux, any ideas?

    There's a howto somewhere in these forums (I know the search function sucks here, but I have seen a thread or two on it). One of your problems might be that the recovery DVD may need an 8GB target because it adds a 1GB swap partition in addition to the ext2 Linpus partition. You may also need to adjust your /etc/fstab and grub.conf files to reflect the right root partition. But you may be able to still use your 4GB drive by copying an image of a Linpus install (not using the recovery DVD). Again, you'll have to find the howto (I tried to do a search but got back too many results to go through them all)

    I did not succeed also to use the dvd recovery disk.
    I tried with a recent quad core system with asus mother board it was randomly destroying the MBR of my hard drives that i successfuly rebuilt with Hiren's boot CD 9.6 but it is a very scary experience :shock:
    I tried under an old athlon pc, i could not acces the menu "create a recovery USB device" just the "restauration procedure"
    I used this on a 8 Gb USB stick but int the A1 it stops at a blue screen with the brand acer at the bottom.
    Has anybody succed to use this DVD recovery on a USB stick?
    Is there another way ? I found this viewtopic.php?f=39&t=651 i'll give it a try later on..

    I've also used an 8G stick (its 300 mb bigger then the ssd)an it didn't work either.

    /etc/fstab on the 8gb stick:
    /dev/sdb1 / ext2 defaults,noatime 1 1
    none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    none /proc proc defaults 0 0
    none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
    #none /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0
    /dev/sdb2 swap swap defaults 0 0

    /etc/fstab on the 4gb stick:
    /dev/sdb1 / ext2 defaults,noatime 1 1
    none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    none /proc proc defaults 0 0
    none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
    #none /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0

    i've found 2 files with the name grub.conf
    1 boot/grub/grub.conf (8gb)

    default=0
    timeout=0
    splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
    hiddenmenu

    title Linpus Linux RCD
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/bzImage ro root=LABEL=linpus vga=0x311 splash=silent loglevel=1 console=tty1 quiet
    initrd /boot/initrd-splash.img

    2 etc/grub.conf (8gb)

    default = 0
    timeout =10
    splashimage (hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
    #
    title Linpus Linux RCD
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.9 ro root=LABEL=linpus selinux=0 vga=0x314 fbcon=font:SUN8x16 splash=silent,theme:default,tty:8,fadein quiet loglevel=1 console=tty1
    initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.23.9.img

    and for the 4 gb stick the files grub.conf are the same.

    What could i change to make them boot?
    I haven't found anything on the forum but i'll keep seaching.

    Your fstab looks right, but not your grub.conf (which sometimes is menu.list or one is a symlink to another) I'm no grub expert, so I suggest you do some reading up on grub. But I do think you need root=0,1 in there. (Right now you have 0,0, which is your first hard drive or SSD.) I still can't find a good howto, but perhaps these threads can help:
