I've just checked the PC World site and they are showing the Blue 8Gb Linux version and its available for collection in store, there seemed to be a number of stores showing stock.

Consider yourself lucky. Here in the US, nobody carries tiny ultraportables like the Asus or Acer in stores, so we have to order them online and wait 2 weeks :-/

    PCWorld stock recalled

    Hi there,

My first (and perhaps only) post:

I heard from a second-hand source that PC World Aspire One stock has been recalled.

They used to be on sale for about £250. The listing still shows up on Google - but clicking on the link takes you to a generic laptop page now. No sign of the Aspire One on the site. Not a sausage.

    Good hunting.

Kinda odd, PC World Yeovil, Taunton Exeter all have stock as of today 23rd July 2008.

    Recall, I wonder what for?

Do you mind saying what location you bought from, and did they have others in stock?

    Re: PCWorld stock recalled

I am not disputing what you heard mate but who or what was your source for this? Is it someone reputable?

I bought my Acer Aspire One at the weekend from PC World in Purley Way (Croydon) and would like to know as soon as possible if I need to return the unit to the store.

I love the little beauty as well

    Fair enough...

I sent an enquiry email to this site that tracks Aspire One availability: http://www.aceraspireone.co.uk/acer_aspire_one.php

Anyway, their reply stated that the stock had been recalled. Don't know how they found out and I didn't ask.

If PC World were simply out of stock we'd surely still see the listing and a new stock availability date, right? So why isn't it on the PC World site at all? Why has it been completely taken off the radar? Just seems odd.

I remember reading an article that it is, or will soon be, against some regulation or other to advertise items that the company knowingly don't have in stock. Might be to do with this?

And I heard form someone who works in PC Worls yesterday that they had been recalled too :(

I got one from PC World on Teesdie Park (near Middlesbrough) on Tuesday - no sign of it being recalled.

I felt dirty buying something from PCW though :?

I got mine at PC World Enfield (north London) yesterday. The 8GB 512MB linux one. They only had blue, wanted white at the time, but have come to realise it looks tacky.

Could anyone who has bought an Aspire One from PC WOrld please post the SKU (unique ID that identifies the product - will be on your receipt). Its hard to try and talk to PC World over the phone when you say "I would like a blue Aspire One" and they ask me if i would like a blue Dell instead!

My receipt is elsewhere at present, traveling.
I will pop into a PC World store tomorrow and get the SKU.
    Assuming nobody replies before then.........
