    So this is my problem:

As soon as I bought lap top and opened the package, I could use it only for 5 minutes since the screen would go off. Only way to get it back is to hard reset it. It happens randomly anywhere between 1-8 min. It looks like it looses the screen since fans/leds are still on.

Anyone had the same problem and what have you discovered?
I suspect a hardware problem since I did the reinstallation and same thing happened again.

Now I installed lean and mean stripped copy of Win Pro (around 700Mb installed) so I will see if it happens again.

I had the same problem, i.e. sudden blackouts of the screen taking place totally randomly. Numerous hard resets that were required to revive the computer from the blackouts led to additional problems. For example, the modifications I had made to the desktop disappeared and the wireless connection (and setup) stopped to work. As I was not able to find any previous reports of similar malfunctioning of Aspire One from the web, I concluded that the problems had to be due to hardware, and I decided to return the computer (a white one with 8GB SSD and Linpus) to the store.

An easy explanation could have been some rare defect in SSD or RAM. However, as there are more than one occurrence of the problem reported now, it may be something else. Maybe BIOS update helps? How about your tests with Win XP?

    Edit:
Actually this seems to be a common problem reported by many users:
