Hello SKYIO, A very durable but "Cheap" machine that was a pretty much a high-end laptop in its time but still has the prestige even today is the Lenovo ThinkPad T400s. You will love the professional matte finish to the LCD cover. Two brands that stand up to the test of time are Dells and Lenovo's and particularly the older model Dells ( Inspiron 1525) similar to your Toshiba, can survive a harsh fall (screen and all) and continue working. Both brands mainly use Intel motherboards. The Toshiba you own is more durable than the Toshiba models manufactured today. Generally all older machines can take a fall. But overall I must say that Lenovo's are highly engineered (e.g. spill resistant keyboards ) and built for performance and durability. A good eBay search will find you this machine for U$130. Here are the specs of the Lenovo :

    • Manufacturer: Lenovo
    • Model: ThinkPad T400S
    • Screen Size: 14.1"
    • Screen Resolution: 1440x900
    • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P9600 2.53GHz
    • RAM: 4GB
    • Hard Drive: 128GB SSD SSD
    • Optical: DVD+RW
    • Battery: Included
    • Webcam: Included
    • Network: ETHERNET/WIFI
    • Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

Yes :) I got The Toshiba Satellite CA0D-ASP4388FM and it works great. It's so light and the fan don't make any noise. I bought it one year ago, and so far so good. My old Toshiba laptop is almost 8 years old, still at home, but use it only when truly needed. So far my experience with Toshiba is great! But just a word of warning... it seems the keyboards in the newest models don't resist water spills... my old Toshiba got a bit soup spilled over it but was fine. This new one had some water spilled over the keyboard, had to get a new one.
