    Hi,
I'm looking to buy new laptop in the price range of £350-£400. I have browsed different websites and tried to narrow it down. Although I do know the basics when looking at specifications (i.e what each thing is and what it does to a degree), I don't know too much when it comes to trade offs, i.e i3 + 8gb of ram or i5 + 4gb of ram. The 3 laptops I've narrowed it down to are:

    HP Pavilion 15-ab040sa @ £361.19 - https://electronicandcomputersoluti...-pavilion-15-ab040sa-15.6-laptop---white.html

    HP 350 G2 (K9J03EA) @ £379.97 - http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/27-3049334/Laptops/HP-350-G2-(K9J03EA)-Product-Info

    ASUS X555LB-XO067H @ £389.90 - http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/27-3069221/Laptops/ASUS-X555LB-XO067H-Product-Info

Things to note: The laptop is just for general use from day to day and in college. The reason I am asking for help is because I was to try get the best for my money. Thanks in advance for any comments or help given relating to my issue. I will also of course consider other laptops that anybody suggests around the same price range.

    Lewis.

The Asus, while pretty similar to the HP 350 G2 is a better spec'd laptop and for the extra £10 would be well worth it. Although the CPU and RAM are the same with the Asus you get double the hard drive space and you get a dedicated graphics chip which would be better if you ever want to do some light gaming on it. The Pavilion is much worse than the other 2 laptops and isn't worth the small saving you'd get.

So overall I'd highly recommend the Asus

thank you very much for the reply. Is there any other laptops you think I should consider around this price or is the Asus my best bet do you think?

I own an Asus (the K55A) and I haven't had any problems with it. As far as other laptops go you'll likely find similar prices but if I were you I'd go with the Asus. It's a decent machine that should definitely last the next 5 years at least as long as it's kept in good condition.

I have no experience with Asus computer, and have two HP Pavillion laptops already! One lasted more than 7 years, and one has over heating problem right now. I didn't have too much problem with my first HP, but the second one is giving me grief.

If I was you, I would find the one that you like most and actually have a feel for it. I don't buy if I haven't touch it or see it. Go to the store and see if you like the real one :)
