it seems like upgrading the RAM w/ the Linpus OS is rather pointless and I don't want a touchscreen or ??... oh i'm in the wrong part of this forums really :D

Well I'll be opening it for the first time in a few days, when I get my Dell DW1390 wifi card. I'll then install a 512MB RAM module, a 30GB 1.8" Toshiba drive and said wifi card. Mac OS X should run like a charm on such a setup ;)

Now ***36*** times leaves me flabbergasted...

I have got to about 25 open/close cycles so far, there will be more.
Now the One is like my firearm, "I can do it in the dark" :)

    36 is cool.

I just finished doing my first mod (adding replacing the SSD with a CF) and the process took me 3 dismantlings in total:

1st time to open it up for the first time ever
    --did modding, put back together--
2nd time to find out why the CF card wasn't working (cable not connected properly)
    --fix, put back together--
3rd time because the touchpad had somehow become disconnected from the motherboard.
    --fix, put back together--

I guess I have some catching up to do to if I'm going to keep up with 36, though.

    Just because I'm curious . . . why the hell 36 times?

    36?! How? Why?!

I've been into mine twice.... once to upgrade RAM, and then again because I forgot to reconnect the touchpad.

I agree with you. Once my warranty expires I'll dig into it, but til then I'll keep it as it is.

I don't think it invalidates your warranty anyway - as long as you don't scratch anything, there'll be no evidence that you've been inside, as there's no seal that you have to break to get in.

8 times so far. The first 3 times was upgrading the ram on the AAO's that I brought back to Best Buy because they bricked. I actually disassembled the last one on the desk of the Geek Squad to show them how to do it.

Once I figured out that I had to reflash the bios after it bricked I finally kept the 3rd one and didn't bring it back. :D

I now have the new bios (no more bricking problems after booting from the usb). So, I have opened this one twice. Once to upgrade the ram and once to upgrade the hard drive to 250gb.

I actually used the hard drive that was in a portable hard drive....a "Signature Mini" that I also bought at Best Buy. They swapped out perfectly.

Anyway, I feel like I can do it blindfolded now. I even know which screws go where. The first time was scary and I used a video I found on Youtube to help.

BTW....why in hell have you taken your AAO apart 36 times?

None. I value my warranty, to a degree, but I value a working AA1 and not having to trek the 60 miles to Microcenter to replace it even more. Been there, done that.
