I'm pretty new to adding ram to a laptop. I'm thinking about buying the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165, then upgrading the ram to 2gb. I was wondering how it works. My questions are rather simple and quite "newbish," so I apologize for asking a question with an obvious answer. I've seen a few tutorials on youtube, but I'm unsure what model exactly is being shown how to upgrade. Does the model in which I am interested have the same procedure as this tutorial: ? If so, the AOD150 is said to come with 1GB of ram and since I want to upgrade to 2gb, do I have to buy another 1GB stick or a 2gb stick and replace the 1GB already in computer? I would hate to buy this laptop and ram that would not work. Any input would be most helpful...Thank you.

Don't worry. That Youtube-video shows the older model. The AOD150-1165 is a lot easier. There's memory slot door on the bottom side of the device. You'll have to buy a 2MB-stick because there is only room for one. Hope this helps you. :)

I don't think he can run anything higher than ms-dos 6.0, if he installs that in his D150 ;)

hi, hope you don't mind me using your thread to ask a somewhat-related question :)

i just gotten my new AOD150 couple of days back and have been contemplating on upgrading the RAM since it only comes with 1GB. reading around on the forum, i realised that other AAO models that comes with 1GB ram is packaged as 2 X 512MB, with one being soldered onto the board, leaving the other 512MB changable only. and even if they can change the remaining 512MB, the highest they can put in is 1GB ram, totalling at 1.5GB as the system won't boot up beyond the BIOS if the total RAM is more than 2GB.

anyone whom had upgraded an AOD150 care to enlighten on how is the ram module like inside since i don't dare to open up mine yet

The AOD150 comes equipped with only one DDR2. On the bottom side you´ll see doors. The middle-sized one is for the RAM. The AOD150 can be upgraded by user to max. 2GB. So go ahead and do it. :)

Do you guys know if the same applies to a D250? Can I swap out the existing 1GB stick for a 2GB? Some of the info I've read on this unit also says that it'll only support up to 1.5. Thanks.

D250 can run up to 2Gb RAM (I have one) and installation is easy as the Netbook has a hatch in the bottom

    Hi Guys,

I attempted to install 2GB of RAM last night in my AOD150, but was not successful. I attempted to install a 2GB Kensington 5300 CL5 200, part no KVR667D2S5/2G but when I booted, nothing happened and the HD light flashed continually. I'm guessing that this is a BIOS issue - can anyone confirm? Many forums refer to adding only PC4200 memory, but the Intel MB should support PC5400 memory.

    Hey SgtJoe,

Thanks for confirming, is this because of a BIOS limitation because the Intel site clearly states that 667 is compatible. Luckily the RAM was only $30.

it's based on another thread i found in the forum, plus the recommendation by the shop assistance. beside, it is always safer to stick to a lower frequency than a higher one since we don't overclock our system.

    I have 2 GB's of DDR2 667 in my AOD150.
You must change the BIOS in order for the new memory to be recognized.
When you first restart your machine, you must enter the BIOS, by pressing F2. Change nothing.
Then save and exit by pressing F10. Your machine should now start with the 667 memory.
