    Hi all,

I recently purchased a acer aspire one linux version & it's working fine. The system by default has a 8 GB HDD & 512 MB Ram.

I tried to attach a 160 GB HDD so that i can increse my hdd space whenever i want to access data.

As i attached the hdd to my usb ports i got an error "Failt to Mount NTFS". Does this mean that linux will not support my external HDD.

Can anyone help in this case?

    Please

    regards,
    thaddeus fernandes

Install and use ntfs-3g from the Fedora repository. If you need help after that, post again.

An easy way is to simply reformat your HDD to FAT32. I ran into the same problem with an external 40GB that had been formatted to NTSF, which did not work, but worked when formatted FAT32.

    In a terminal do:

    sudo yum install ntfs-3g

    That should do it.

    Cheers.

rbil's suggestion for using ntfs-3g is a much better idea. While FAT32 has wider support, NTFS has a number of advantages. Among others, FAT32 won't support files larger than about 2GB.

Why not just format it to a native linux type like ext3?
