I have a 120G XP machine. I want to dual boot a Linux distro.

What distro can you recommend? Does linpus have the best hardware support for this platform?

Probably it does. Linpus has also been tweaked extensively to get good speed, low memory usage, and quick startup. But I would guess that most people who install a second OS on their AA1 are installing some version of Ubuntu. Personally, I'm sticking with Linpus.

What I can suggest is Mandriva. Whole system works out-of-the-box...

Hundreds of places :) Try `download ubuntu' in Google. If you have a bittorrent client, you might find a torrent download faster than a web download, given the size. This is the one _legal_ use of bittorrent that I've come across :)

The current version doesn't support the SD card readers or wifi out of the of the box (or in this case, off the iso). A pet package (which is standard the way Puppy Linux users get their add-ons) is available for wifi. Puppy does not seem to include the pciehp module which is apparently needed by the SD card readers.

The major advantage of the Linpus version included with the AA1 is full use of the multicard reader; neither Fedora nor Ubuntu have this. I don't know about Mandriva. The standard kernel does not include modules for the JMicron multicard reader. Given that Linpus Lite is based on Fedora, one option is to use the Linpus Lite kernel with Fedora. Definitely a bit of messing around, but I did have it working on the AA1 that died on me.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, RockDoctor. :)

Sorry to hear about your dead AA1. :(
