Has the RAM upgrade really voided the warranty?

I have an AA1 a110L and I am in UK. The first thing I did when I got it was install an additional 1gb of RAM and replace Linpus with Windows XP. Now the right-hand side sd card reader seems dead and after getting no suggestion on this forum about what might cause the problem, I guess the next step will be to send the laptop to Acer. I can restore Linpus in minutes but I am not really happy to reopen its guts to remove the RAM module. Question is: will they accept to repair it when/if they find out the ram has been upgraded?

Never had any warranty/service issue but according to lot of topics covered this problem Acer Service will accept warranty as long as AA1 itself have not been damaged by improper installation etc... RAM upgrade is only upgrade not voiding warranty by the way...
