Gnome and KDE-what are these??

    Gnome and KDE

    what are the last 2???, would i have them on my standard aa1??. any recommendations??
    I am looking at an article and dont know whether as a newbie I should try one of these ideas-

    They are the 2 most popular desktop environments for Linux boxes. I wouldn't try running them under Linpus on the AAO however. They are very resource intensive compared to XFCE, the desktop that comes with Linpus. You can run apps however written for those 2 environments by installing the basic underlying libraries, which should happen automatically should you try and install one of those apps through the repos.
