I realize that the main purpose of a netbook is simply to browse the internet, do some word processing, and so on, but why does intel seem so obsessed w/ the 1.6Ghz processor speed? Even the newer rendition of the Atom is only 1.66Ghz or such. Is it that they are trying to keep the wattage requirements down? Does it have to do w/ the certain architecture they're using to make the chips? Is it to keep netbooks firmly out of the domain of "true" laptops and mobile computing?

    Thanks.

    1. heat
    2. power consumption.
    3. to not cannibalize their new upcoming CULV line
    4. profits, they don't have as high a margin on the Atom.

I often read it has to do with Microsoft's pricing model for Windows. That might be a big influence. Big discount for a model line that has performance within a certain range.

13" Macbook is pretty small and it has Intel Dual Core along with DDR3 RAM and GeForce 9 series graphics with dedicated VRAM.
