External DVD drive and OSX DVD software

    I have a LG slim external dvd drive that does not seem to be able to play dvds using the osx dvd software.

    It seems to come up with a dvd drive not valid error.

    Thanks i will try that.
    Importing cds to itunes works fine.

    MacOS DVDPlayer.app is far too clever for its own good. To keep smiley with the MPAA, Apple have
    made the DVDPlayer software check the player for Region Coding. DVDPlayer software Region setting
    and drive firmware Region setting must match, and if it's not Apple branded drive, it's no go.

    Forget that nonsense: use VLC http://www.videolan.org
    I use VLC all the time on all our Macs at the office, not so fancy looking as Apple apps,
    but it does a whole lot more tricks in playback adjustments, and transcoding.

    VLC's servers seem flaky just now ... :cry:
