When running iTunes on my old HP laptop which similar in specs to the one, it really drain system resources a lot more than a music player should. So what are the best options for an MP3 player that has a minimal footprint on the processor?

Foobar2k is really nice, but you have to do a bit of tweaking to get it looking nice.

I'm a big fan of Winamp. How efficient it is, I'm not sure, but it might be worth a try.

Try windows media player classic. It's the most basic player I've seen.

another vote for foobar2000. foobar2000 is less resourceful than winamp with usefulness of winamp AND itunes combined.

Maybe the foobar I'm using isn't optimized, but I did a memory usage check on 2 separate computers (one using vista and one using xp) and both showed that foobar was using approx 60 mb of ram. In comparison Windows Media player 11 was only using around 23mb. Also Winamp used a respectable 18 mb.
