Creating USB recovery stick from Apple iMac (10.5)

    I'm trying to create a linux USB recovery stick for my Acer Aspire One. The instructions from Acer are, frankly, appalling.

    I have managed to start up the iMac from the Acer recovery disk and have selected the 'Create recovery USB drive' option. However all I get then is an Aspire One splash screen and a progress bar that goes precisely nowhere. There is no screen to select the USB stick as per the instructions.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
