Well, as far as I can tell, the Acer recovery software on the One can only restore from the hidden HDD partition. I also went to the Acer support site, and they won't even sell you recovery CDs, yet. When I entered my One's serial number, I was told that the number was invalid.

So, hopefully a reasonable XP restore CD solution will be found out soon.

    Thanks!

I was happy to read the OS resides in the hidden partition, but then I thought what happens if the hdd fails & you want to replace it?

So.... where did you find this tutorial, thanks? :D

It's simply possible to just use any XP OEM disc, with the key from your Acer One. I've done it many times before, with different machines :)

years ago we installed NT4.0 from scratch using only DOS bootdisk with cdrom drivers and then put cd in which only containened i386 directory. i386/winnt.exe started installation program.

There is i386 directory on disk, just tried winnt.exe, it starts installation program. Also, there is winnt32.exe which starts graphical setup. Have anyone tried to do any bootable media and tried this ? There might be a problem to find working serial number for XP, or not....

You mean just use any ACER XP OEM disc, with the key from your Acer One. The OEM disk looks for the bios identification number. It the identification number matches with the number on the OEM disk, the windows XP will become genuine.

While this may be true for instant genuine activation, any OEM disc will do. The difference is you will have to use the automated system and call microsoft to activate with an oem disc. It takes about 5 minutes and is quite simple.

Edit: Calling them may not even be necessary. I just installed an OEM copy of windows xp home with the CD key from the sticker on my Aspire One and it activated right over the internet. Fast and simple.
