    Hi

I Just one hour ago bought the "One" and right away a faced a problem when trying to configure the WLAN connection :-(

    My question in a short:

If my ADSL router wep settings are defined like this:

    Key = 0x12345678901234567890123456

and the routers intructions are saying following about the key format "128-bit WEP: Enter 13 characters or 26 hexadecimal digits ("0-9", "A-F") preceded by 0x for each Key(1-4)"

=> What should I type in the WLAN "Security key/passphrase" field? (Hidden) SSID, encryption & security type settings have been verified (several times) and I've tried to enter several different key combinations in to Security key/passphrase -field (like 12345678901234567890123456) without success.

    Thanks :)

The clue is in the statement:
    "128-bit WEP: Enter 13 characters or 26 hexadecimal digits ("0-9", "A-F"

    "12345678901234567890123456" is not 13 characters.

and it is not the same as "0x12345678901234567890123456"

Also WEP is not that secure.

Try leaving the router open to start with, then connect to the router, if it works then you have only got to sort a password issue.

set the router to WEP and the password to "1234567890123"
then tell the One that the password is "1234567890123"
    Notice neither start with Ox

let us know how you get on.

    Hi...

and thank for the tips. When I disabled the 128b wep encryption WLAN connection was established okay. With the "1234567890123"-keys the connection does not go up...

    Any other ideas?

Well at least we know it works.......

    What router is it?
On the router are you providing hex digits, by including the leading 0x or a leading $ sign?

I believe that the One password is not hex in default mode.

My router is Zyxel Prestige 600.

I tried also "0x00000000000000000000000000" as a WEP key without success (in device side I used "0000000000000" key).

After playing with this problem now couple of hours I'm getting worried if this will ever work. I dowloaded some updates through "Live Update" and hoped that some miracle would happen but no...

    FYI

I managed to get the connection working with following settings:

    1) In ADS router I defined the WEP key with 26 hexadecimal digits starting with 0x...
    2) In laptop I entered the WEP key with 13 alpanumeric (0-9, a-z) characters and I defined the access point authentication type (security type) as a "open" (this was the root cause of the problem; I had defined the parameter as a "Shared" that seem to cause a confict)

Now the WEP connection works very well and I'm ready to start use this gadget :)

    Thanks "Sid" for your support...

Is there any possibility to enter a hexadecimal value as the WEP key on the One? I have a key that I would not want to change because it is shared between several devices, and it would be a pain to change the key in them all. Also, I can't use the ASCII string corresponding to the hex value, since it contains bytes that map to control chars.

I find it hard to believe it would be impossible to enter the key in hex mode. It has worked fine on all my other devices so far.

    WEP is easily broken....

for better security use WPA or WPA2 if all the devices are compatible, for the best however, find out all the MAC addresses of your devices and only allow those access.

Depends on your definition of "easy". WEP is sufficiently strong to keep neighbouring zombie machines from accidentally connecting to my network. This is good enough for me, I trust my neighbours. Also, you don't always have a choice: When connecting to Wifi neworks at friends and relatives you can't start demanding them to change encryption algorithms.

Now, back to the original question: does anybody know how to enter a 26-digit hex key on the One? Do you prefix it with "0x" or does the Network Manager guess from the length of the string that the input is a hex string as opposed to an ASCII string? Or is an ASCII passphrase the only alternative input format?

Theres loads of freeware programs that can analyse a WEP network and break it 80% of the time..

i personally think its quite foolish to go with a lesser form of security when you have a higher rated one available to you.
