What happens if I close the lid when the computer is turned on?
Do the programs I have running stop?
    Do I lose data?

Depends how you have it configured. By default it's set to suspend if the lid is closed, which means everything pretty much stops running but power is still supplied to the memory so when you start again everything continues running as it was. You can also set it to do nothing or shut down when the lid is closed.

How do you access the controls to those settings?
I looked in Settings under Display settings, Power center and System, but didn't see anything that looked appropriate.

Power center, general settings tab, then click button events.

    OK.
I didn't realize the button events had options behind it. But looking at it closer it kinda looks like it's own tab.
    Thanks.
