Just putted a Sony camera Memorystick Pro Duo with the adaptor into the card reader. The memory loaded fine.
Checked a couple of pictures, no problem. Then I just took out the memory and left the adaptor in. Took another photo with the camera, plugged the memory back in and it didn't reloaded the memory. New pictures didn't show up.

So I tried ejecting the memory and the system froze.

Turned off the system the hard way (Kept the power button pressed).

And now, no matter what kind of memory I use, the system won't mount it.
The expansion card reader doesn't work either, so an SD card doesn't show as available space.

    ¿What should I do?

Could you run the following command right after inserting a card in the reader:
    Code:
    dmesg | tail
And again after ejecting the card?

    And then post both outputs?

I'm not that often on this forum but with this information maybe I or someone else can help you.

Ok, now for some reason, it started working again.

Just after several reboots, who knows why.

    anyway, here're the outputs:

After pluging the SD card in:
    Code:
    FAT: Directory bread(block 509) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 510) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 511) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 512) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 513) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 514) failed
mmc0: new SD card at address 0002
    mmcblk1: mmc0:0002 00000 1974272KiB
     mmcblk1: p1
    aufs test_add:377:mount[6027]: uid/gid/perm /tmp/posixdir 500/0/0755, 500/500/0755

and after taking the card out:
    Code:
    FAT: Directory bread(block 505) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 506) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 507) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 508) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 509) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 510) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 511) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 512) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 513) failed
    FAT: Directory bread(block 514) failed

    Thanks for the answer.

    Hmm.
I've googled for the bread errors in you dmesg output and what I found was this:

    From this forum: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=24828&sid=63f2bfda7623f9c38a1d3247cbc97d7e

Could be that your card reader(s) are bad or that the card-reader firmware in the aspire one has problems :-(.

I'm having the same problem - last night I put in the Xd card from my phone and got absolutely no recognition yet with an SD card in the same slot there was no problem at all. Any ideas anyone or is it going to be another case of waiting for Acer to get it fixed on the automatic updates front?

Try running a dmesg after you insert a card.
You might find information about why the card is not recognized.

Well I don't know how warranty is handled in the shop/country you bought your AA1 but I would return to the shop and show them the problem.

However.. it could also be that the firmware of the cardreaders (in all AA1's) is buggy :-(

AND it could be that your SD-card is broken
