I am a new Acer Aspire One owner and have had the AAO for about a week now. I'm not familiar with Linux at all having used Windows before and I'm becoming extremely frustrated with this OS. I have activated the advanced mode but whatever I do I cannot add programmes. The usual message is 'Cannot retrieve repository metdata etc.' I know this has come up many times before but I'm unable to find a solution.

Any help would be much appreciated, in idiot (me) proof language please before this netbook is consigned to the bin.

This might be due to a change in the repositories (see [urlhttp://macles.blogspot.com/2008/09/updated-repositories.html]here[/url] for an explanation.

Alt-f2 for run program, type terminal, hit return. This will bring up the command line terminal.
    Then copy and paste:
    Code:
    sudo yum install fedora-release
    (shift+ctrl+v to paste in terminal)
    and hit return.

In more general terms, this topic might help, and the blog I linked to above is full of good stuff.
