Google on Wednesday announced that it will offer free calls via Hangouts, Hangouts Dialer, or Google Voice to Belgium and Turkey. The announcement came in the wake of Brussels attacks that took place early on Tuesday.

People who want to connect with their family and friends in Belgium and Turkey can make free calls using Hangouts to Lycamobile, Mobistar, Proximus, and Telenet, which are Belgium's mobile carriers. People can also make calls to landlines in Turkey.

Apart from free calls, Google will be also offering people in and around Brussels with transit updates and a direct link to the Government Crisis Centre via Google Now cards.

Google should already be offering free calls to those places since they are using a VOIP network and not paying for the lines themselves. It's nice that they've made the provision during the situation, but still greedy and penny-pinching of them to market themselves during the tragedy.

That was a terrible tragedy! We live in a world that is not safe anymore, and it is Good that Google offering free calls. All the big companies should do the same. It is still better than nothing!

Everything you say makes so much sense and is a true eye opener. because if you put it like that... it does make them look greedy :/ And yeah, marketing themselves in a time like this is really low.

Yeah. I am moving soon to Nord-Holland. It's a shame Europe is no longer a safe heaven, I blame it on the stupid goverment we have, specially Merkel who let so many strangers in. Who in their safe mind would let an unlimited number of complete strangers into one's house? She did that exactly... I doubt all those attacks are coincidence...

She will let an unlimited number of people come in because it will make her look good, and also she has protection around the block, whereas, we are just vulnerable to whatever happens.
