Avira Free Antivirus has a browser protection extension which you can take advantage of if you're using Firefox, I don't really know if it actually works with Chrome, but it would be worth the try. Good luck.

If you use Firefox then some addons you may wish to consider.

Adblockplus: this will help in two ways stopping most adverts, and reducing your download allowance.

Ghostery: helps stop website trackers etc.

Noscript: helps in stopping a hidden script from performing

    Better: stops L.S.O. Cookie.

Do you have a recommendation for Safari? I don't having addons and was considering lately that I really need some. I definitely need something that stops ghostly, noscript, and stops L.S.O. cookies.

These are the best but in the case pf Noscript it can be annoying having to OK everything, i just have it running in the background and don't have it active.

Most enterprises prefer extensions as they add on browser productivity. The two or three month patching cycle adopted by most people is not enough to prevent extensions from being hijacked by bots. You should beware of extensions which interact with local files, Windows registry and cookies. According to expert opinion, Sandbox pluggings offer more security than non Sandbox pluggings.

Thank you for this information! I have the same question as @BlueText for Safari since I am on a Mac and it's the default browser.

The newest Safari updates had thrown me for a loop as the text is so small for my eyes to see, so I switched to Chrome. It would also be nice to have some addons for Chrome!
