Hello everyone, iv read all through this forum regarding this issue but have not come across a valid solution.

I attached a 1.8" HDD using the zif connection but my bios does not even detect it. The hardrive light turns on but its not visible in the bios

Iv got a Toshiba MK3008GAl which was originally inside an ipod, i understand others have managed to use it on this forum, but i dont know whats wrong with mine.

could it be possible that the HDD is locked as it was originally in an ipod, or do you think its due to the fact that the HDD is formatted in away in which the bios wont be able to detect it.

Please help me as iv been trying to get it working for 1 week now,

    Thankyou.

The formatting won't affect whether the BIOS can see the drive or not. I'd double-check the connection, if it's in at one end but not properly at the other it may do what you've described.

Am I better of getting the Hitachi - C4K60 with the Flip Cable?
Iv tried 2 different MK3008GAL, and neither of them are detected by the bios although the drive is spinning

So let me see if i get you... you've tried two drives, neither work, and it never occured to you that the one thing in common might be the issue? i.e. the cable? I damaged my cable by sanding too much. I exposed a very small amount of wire. The drive was getting power and spinning but not on in the BIOS.

    Please someone HELP me lol

The new zif cables just came through, these cables are perfect.

It has 2 ends, one end is blue which goes into the motherboard and then theres the white end, which doesnt require sanding or filing down as fits perfectly into the HDD

however i am still having the same issue, i can hear the drive spinning up but the bios does not even detect it.

Please help me with some suggestions thanx

Is your hard drive led on solid or is it blinking. If it is on solid then you need to turn the zif connector the other way on the hard drive. I just learned the hard way myself.

The hard drive led is solid regardless of which way the zif cable is connected, iv tried both way round, i get solid led and bios does not detect it.
